A great football video featuring the top ten goal misses of the 2010-11 season.
1. David Villa (Spain v Lithuania, October 8, 2010)
A quite incredible miss from one of the, if not the, top striker in world football. Villa had all the time in the world and a gaping net, quite why he seemed intent on hitting the corner when he had the whole net to aim it is a conundrum.
2. Khalfan Fahad (Qatar v Uzbekistan, November 15, 2010)
Fahad capitalised after a blunder by Uzbeki keeper Timur Juraev put him clean through on goal. There was no a single player between the striker and the back of the net and the goal appeared a complete, 100% certainty. But it wasn't.
3. Jakub 'Kuba' Blaszczykowski (, November 20, 2010
In the 85th minute of the match 2-1-up, Kuba made a lung bursting run from deep. Robert Lewandowski took the keeper out the equation and the goal was gaping. The commentators shouted "goal" and there were fans already cheering. Then the blooper happened.
4. Veria FC (Levadiakos v Veria FC, December 19, 2010)
We usually flag up individual misses, but this is something a bit more special as a whole team conspired to get in on the act. Nikolaos Georgiadis started things off smacking his shot on the slide onto the post. The rebound fell to Serginho who made a complete hash of his supposed header at goal. Then the ball found it's way to Dimitrios Machairas who cracked a shot on the bar from three yards out. Serginho then had another attempt at goal, only managing to hit the foot of the post. Finally Nikolaos Georgiadis killed the move by ballooning a shot over the bar from the edge of the six yard box.
5. Marlon de Jesus (Ecuador U20 v Uruguay U20, February 3, 2011)
This is one of the worst misses of all time. Without wishing to ruin it for you, the important facts to know are that with just one minute left of the match, a ball come over from the right hand side with our hero left all alone to tap home... The encounter ended 1-1!
6. Adam Rooney (Inverness CT vs Greenock Morton, February 5, 2011)
Rooney starred in this Scottish FA Cup match, scoring a brace in a 5-1 win but it should have been so much better when he was presented with the simplest of simple opportunities to claim a hat-trick only for the goal-getter to screw-up the chance in tremendously comical fashion.
7. Jaime Ayovi (Toluca v Necaxa, February 20th, 2011)
Having collected a lovely, defence-splitting pass through the centre, the Ecuadorian striker did superbly well to lift the ball over the onrushing keeper to gift himself the oasis of an empty net. What happened next will haunt Ayovi for the rest of his days. And his face said as much.
8. Miroslav Klose (, May 14th, 2011)
With 14 World Cup goals to his name, putting him joint second along with Gerd Müller on the list of tap the ball into an empty net from a yard out. Obviously that assumption proved baseless.
9. Sean Stewart (St Patrick's v Athlone Town, May 14th, 2011)
The striker was already planning his celebration as the ball was rolled across to him, five yards from goal, with no goalkeeper or defenders within an Irish country mile.
10. Anderson Fredrick (Somewhere in Venezuela, date unknown)
We don't usually put clips up on 101gg without knowing if it was recent and details such as team and player names. This miss stands as the exception being arguably not only the greatest miss of the season, but possibly of all-time. Missing the cut were misses from Rui Miguel, Marco Perez, Dani Alves, Hugo Almeida, Samuel Eto'o, Maicon Santos, Simone Pesce, Samuel Vanegas, Mirko Vucinic, Aaron Mclean, Maxi Rodriguez, Ikeda Kato and Bruno Zuculini.
